Florence Cassidy, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2023, just one month shy of her 100th birthday. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Bernie who passed away at age 100, just four months ago. Florence and Bernie had been married for 78 years.
Florence was born on June 8, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck. She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Gertrude Sweeney, and her sister Gertrude Ebersole.
Florence was proud of her multi-generational roots in Naugatuck and had a wonderful life there, filled with the love of family and many friends. She graduated from Naugatuck High School in the class of 1940, where she met the love of her life, Bernie.
Florence and Bernie were married in 1944 and had three children. Florence took great joy in being a homemaker and did it well. She was always there for her children, greeting them home from school with freshly baked cookies, cold milk, and a warm hug.
Florence was active in the Naugatuck Garden Club, numerous bridge clubs, and had a wide circle of friends. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, and cooking. Florence had a wonderful sense of humor that she shared with all she met.
Florence leaves cherished memories to be fondly remembered by her three children; Kevin Cassidy of Anchorage, Alaska; Laureen Treu and husband Herb of Southbury, CT; Brian Cassidy and wife Sherri of Litchfield, CT; granddaughters Lauren Gardner of Auckland, New Zealand and Kristin Cassidy of Naugatuck, and nephew Scott Ebersole and wife Nancy, of Colchester, CT.
