Naugatuck - Emil M. Martino, 95, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary (Clisham) Martino.
Emil was born on August 18, 1930, in Waterbury, the son of the late Emil and Mary (Presto) Martino. He was predeceased by his sisters, Genevieve (Martino) Shea and her husband Frank “Spec”, and Anita (Martino) Peterson and her husband Alan. Emil was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck, CT. Emil served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1951-1959. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Haven School of Business while working full time. Emil spent most of his career as Chief Information Officer for the footwear division at Uniroyal Inc. and retired as the CIO of Tetley Tea Inc. in Shelton, CT.
Emil loved baseball and coached his sons’ teams at Union City Little League. He loved watching the Yankees and Red Sox games and would never reveal which team was his favorite. Through his grandchildren, he expanded his love of sports to ice hockey, field hockey, tennis or any sport or activity in which they were involved. He played golf every day but Sunday at Hop Brook for over 30 years. He loved to meet his friends in the mall to walk and converse over coffee. After he retired, he enjoyed cooking and perfected many dishes from his Italian heritage. But more than cooking, he loved to share the food he made with his family.
Above all, Emil adored his family and was countlessly giving to his children and grandchildren. He put everyone else above himself. Emil was a true gentleman, a rock solid, quiet, steady force with a sharp sense of humor who was respected and admired by all who knew him.
Emil is survived by his son, Michael Martino and his wife Kim, his son Raymond Martino, his daughter Susan (Martino) Arciero and her husband Matthew, and his daughter-in-law, Lisa Ferraro; his grandchildren, Emily Arciero, Michael Arciero, Christopher Arciero, Sophia Martino, and Gabriela Martino; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Arrangements – Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 5 to 7 pm at the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
