Elisabeth Kurdeka Bazin died on August 4th, 2026. She was born September 25th, 1922 in Thomaston, Connecticut to Anna and Joseph Kurdeka.
She graduated from high school and went on to attend Bryant College in Rhode Island at age 16. She had a long-time career with the Connecticut Teachers Retirement System.
She was active with the Thomaston Opera House from its inception, and supported the local community over many years. She was a leader and elder at the Mattituck Unitarian Universalist Society, where she participated in a healing group past her 100th year birthday. She was an expert knitter, NY Times crossword aficionado, and loved trying unique recipes.
She is predeceased by her brothers, John, of Arizona, and Peter, of Florida; her husband, Joffre (Bob) Bazin; and her son-in-law, David Leathers. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Margot and John Mundy of Arkansas, Carla Leathers of Burlington, Connecticut, and Tinah and Charles Quintana of Oregon. His grandchildren and their spouses are Jonah and Rachel Jackson of Texas, Jarret Kilinski of Oregon, Ben Kilinski and Minh-Huyen of Honolulu, and Jose and Stacy Villarrubia of Arkansas. Her great-grandchildren are Fawn Grise of Oregon, Davis and Audrey Jackson of Texas, Lily Grace and Amelia Villarrubia of Arkansas, and Sarria of Honolulu. She will be missed also by her dedicated home health aide, Anna, and her compadres in her UU healing group.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 1pm at Mattituck Unitarian Universalist Society, 283 Main Street North, Southbury, CT.
