Donald P. Zychowski, 91, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Prentice) Zychowski for a joy filled 54 years. Donald was born on January 26, 1935 in Meriden, CT to the late Felix and Mary Zychowski.
He attended St. Stanislaus School and Wilcox Tech in Meriden. Donald was Supervisor of Machine Repair at Pratt & Whitney in North Haven for 26 years. Following his retirement from Pratt, he and his wife ran a successful clock repair business, The Clock Man. Donald was a proud, yet humble, quiet man of deep faith who adored his growing family. He was an expert polka dancer – in their younger years he and Ruth enjoyed many “polka weekends” away dancing with friends. He loved to golf, travel, hunt and cheer on his UConn Huskies basketball teams, actively living life to the absolute fullest until the very end.
He leaves behind his children Debra (Michael) Kumkowski of Cheshire, Robin (Marlene) Zychowski of Barrington, NH and David (Michele) Zychowski of Naugatuck; grandchildren Lisa (James) McGinn, Laura (Micky) Ely, Matthew R. Zychowski, Lara C. Zychowski and Emma A.K. Zychowski; as well as great-grandchildren Sadie, Kinley and Lucas Ely; his sister Tosi (Antoinette) Kilar; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Leonard Zychowski.
