Donald John Baumgarten, 86, of Wallingford, formerly of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026.

Don was born on April 4, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late John and Elfrieda Baumgarten. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Lynne Gallagher Baumgarten.

Don earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Mechanical Technology and worked throughout his career as a manufacturing engineer. He was a proud Mason and member of Temple Lodge 16 in Cheshire, Connecticut.

Don’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was extremely proud of his children and especially loved coaching and supporting them in their soccer activities. He later took immense pride in watching his grandchildren excel in athletics, music, and academics. Don also enjoyed gardening, genealogy, and connecting with others.

In addition to his loving wife Lynne, Don leaves behind his brother, Douglas Baumgarten and his wife Susan of Stuart, Florida; his children, Kristen Brown and her husband Darrell of Cheshire, Connecticut, Keith Baumgarten and his wife Sara of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Eric Baumgarten and his wife Sofia of Canton, Connecticut. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren: Alex and Colin Brown; Champ, Eileen, Max, and Eleanor Baumgarten; and Ella and Easton Baumgarten.

A Graveside Service with a Masonic Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, 166 Wallingford Road, Cheshire, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
