Waterbury, CT Delfim G. Sousa, 89, husband of the late Carmolina (Malgalhaes) Sousa, died September 17, 2026 at VITAS Healthcare at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Delfim was born July 9, 1937 in Fiães -Feira, Portugal, son of the late Bernardino Gomes de Sousa and Leopordina Soares de Conceicao. He emigrated from Portugal in 1970 and had lived in Waterbury for the past 56 years. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a retired employee of Sealy Mattress Company.
More than just a hard worker, Delfim instilled the true meaning of a strong work ethic in his children through his daily dedication. Outside of work, Delfim lived life with vibrancy and joy—whether he was spending a quiet day fishing, tending to his garden, crafting his own wine, or proudly manning the grill to cook up "his chicken" for family and friends.
Delfim is survived by his sons, Val Sousa (Zoe), Jose Sousa (Regina), Dino Sousa (Mary-Beth) and Antonio Sousa; his grandchildren, David Sousa (Dawn), Marisa Sousa, Jordan Sousa (Autumn), Alexia Parekh (Sagar), Kyle Perez, Dax Sousa (Taylor), Savannah Sellick (DJ), Hannah Sousa, Trevor Sousa and his 8 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters in law, Arminda Oliveira, Joaquim Magalhaes (Maria), Adelino Magalhaes (Judith), Maria Filippone, Americo Magalhaes, Rosa Magalhaes, Fernanda Magalhaes; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in Portugal.
In addition to Carmolina, his wife of 64 years, and his parents, Delfim was predeceased by his daughter, Fatima Sousa; his brothers in law, Manuel, Antonio and Jose Magalhaes and Robert Filippone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending Mass in kindly asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 203 Spring Lake Road, Waterbury. There are no calling hours and arrangements are entrusted to the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Delfim’s memory, donations are requested to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
