Naugatuck, CT Daniel Anthony Ciarlo, 91, husband of the late Sally (Thurston) Ciarlo, passed away peacefully in his home on December 26th, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Daniel was born on March 18th, 1930 in Waterbury, a son of the late Peter and Philomena (Albini) Ciarlo. He graduated from Henry Abbott Grammar School and Leavenworth High School, class of 1948, and Mattatuck Community College. He played on many athletic teams in his younger years, including basketball and football.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy as well as the Navy Reserves. He served for many years as an aircrew chief on naval aircraft, flying throughout the world. He retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1984.
He worked in various capacities for the United States Postal Service, primarily in Waterbury. He retired as the Superintendent of the Plaza Station in Waterbury. He was a member of the Pontelandolfo Community Club, VFW Post 7330 in Oakville, Naval Enlisted Reserve Association and was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck.
He is survived by his daughter, Jayne (Thurston) Williams, her husband Justin Williams and his two grandchildren, Zachary Williams and Julia Williams. He is also survived by his brother, Mario Ciarlo, his sister, Patricia Boudo, her husband Peter and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. In addition to his wife and his parents, Dan was predeceased by his daughter, Sally Ann Illes and his sister, Shirley Terenzi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please meet directly at church. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-6pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Dan’s memory, donations can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home Tuesday at 5:45pm.
