Carolyn Ann Gress

Carolyn Ann Gress, 79, of Meriden, CT, former resident of Cheshire, and wife of the late David Gress, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022. Carolyn was born in Hartford, CT and was the daughter of John and Gertrude Reynolds.

She spent her youth growing up in Darien, CT and Lancaster, PA and loved to spend her summers at the shore. She graduated from Millersville State College in 1967 with a BS in Education/Industrial Art and later moved to CT to raise her family. She spent several years working as a substitute industrial arts teacher while her children were growing and then as a graphics designer with several area newspapers including the Cheshire Herald and Waterbury Republican. After retiring, she assisted in running ceramics classes at the Meriden Senior Center. She loved to read, knit, cook, shop and could create masterpieces out of blank pieces of wood. She loved music and could not help but sing and dance along whenever “Sweet Caroline” came on. More than anything, she treasured her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, John (Cristin) Gress, Allison (Michael) Murray and Amy (Frank) Wild; and her beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Avery, Frank, Brodie, Kyle and Matthew. She also leaves behind her friend, Joseph Chasse and her faithful four-legged companion, Tootsie.

Calling hours will be on Monday, November 21, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street. Burial will be private.
