Bonnie Katrosar, a beloved mother, wife, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at Cheshire House in Waterbury. She was 76 years old.
Born on October 5, 1949, in Hartford to the late Bert and Lillian (Salow) Shampain, Bonnie was a proud graduate of Conard High School and earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Eastern Connecticut State University. Her passion for education led her to serve as a special education assistant at Highland School in Cheshire for over two decades, where she touched the lives of countless students and families with her kindness and commitment.
Bonnie cherished moments spent in the company of her family, who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, David Katrosar; her daughter, Marcy Katrosar; her son, Michael Katrosar; her brother, Robert Shampain and his wife, Marjorie and their son Joshua; and sister-in-law, Hollye Lew and her husband Lawrence and their children, Richard and Adam. Bonnie's family was her world, and she found immense joy in spending time with them, along with their beloved dogs.
An avid lover of cooking, Bonnie would often be found immersed in her collection of cookbooks, always eager to try new recipes and share meals with her family. Her nurturing spirit and deep love for her family will forever be remembered.
In honor of Bonnie's life, a funeral service will be held at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 South Main Street on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Hebrew Benefit Cemetery in Waterbury. Shiva will be observed at the family home on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bonnie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. Bonnie Katrosar's legacy of love, compassion, and devotion to both her family and her students will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to those she loved will be profoundly missed.
