Barry Francis Burke, 82 of Wallingford peacefully passed away on October 16, 2023.

Barry was born on July 17, 1941 to Joseph and Beatrice Ahmuty Burke in Norwalk, CT. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and a lifetime New York Yankee and New York Giants fan. Sports were Barry’s passion and he excelled at them. He earned high school varsity letters in baseball, hockey, and football and as a youth, was a member of the Norwalk team that won the 1952 Little League World Series. Later in life, he turned to golf, both as an active player and working for CSGA and CWGA.

After high school, Barry enlisted in the US Air Force, serving four years at Otis and Thule Air Force bases. After his honorable discharge, he began to work at SNET where he had a successful 32-year career, retiring in 1996 as the VP of Operations for SNET Cellular.

Upon retirement, Barry and his wife were fortunate enough to spend 25 years as snowbirds in Florida, enjoying life and golf which was Barry’s passion – he was so proud of his seven holes in one!!!

He was a 36-year member of the Farms Country, where he made so many friends, particularly his Legends buddies, with whom he played three times a week until the onset of his illness.

Barry leaves his wife Nancy of 38 years, sons Barry (Leslie) of Middletown, Sean (Leslie) of Cheshire and the absolute light of his life, his granddaughter Stephanie. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin.

The family would like to thank the staff of Enhabit Home Health, particularly his therapist Kate, who worked so hard to make him the best he could be and to the staff of Accent Care for their professionalism and compassion at the end of Barry’s s life.

There will be no calling hours and the funeral will be private. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements. A celebration of Barry’s life will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. at The Farms Country Club, 180 Cheshire Road, Wallingford.
