Barbara Zurowski Wallace, 79, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, with her children by her side.
Barbara was a proud lifelong resident of Cheshire, Connecticut, where she lived for over 75 years before moving to Wilton to be closer to her daughter. She was a graduate of Cheshire High School, Class of 1965, and later continued her education with coursework at Quinnipiac University.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Barbara devoted 20 years of service to the Records Department of the Cheshire Police Department, where she served the town and built lasting relationships before retiring.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter G. Wallace, and her brothers, Joseph Zurowski and Anthony Zurowski. She was the cherished daughter of the late Anthony and Bernice (Suwinski) Zurowski.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jen Vanderwall and her husband Scott Vanderwall of Wilton, Connecticut, and her son, Philip Wallace of Warrenton, Virginia. Barbara was a proud grandmother—known affectionately as “Nina”—to her four grandchildren: Ryan Vanderwall (23), Casey Vanderwall (21), Taylor Wallace (21), and Cameron Wallace (18). She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Henn of Meriden, Connecticut, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, her warm smile, and her deep love for her family. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—gardening, baking and gifting her cinnamon and blueberry breads, and knitting Christmas stockings for each new member of the family. She especially loved the beach, parades, and 4th of July fireworks—moments she looked forward to year after year.
Around town, Barbara was a familiar and spirited presence, often seen driving her cherished cars over the years—from her 1965 Mustang to her Volkswagen Cabriolet, and most recently, her 2015 Camaro.
Barbara’s legacy is one of love, strength, and generosity. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 29, from 1-4 pm at Alderson-Ford Funeral Home in Cheshire. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 30, at 12 pm at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery.
