Anna Maria Pito

CHESHIRE- It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Anna Maria Pito (Maffettone) age 92, on May 1st 2024. Anna Maria was born in Naples, Italy, December 16, 1931, and married Dr. Vincent John Pito in 1958. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the United States to start a family and where Vincent began practicing medicine. After short periods in Fall River, Rhode Island, and Weathersfield CT., they settled in Cheshire to raise their four children: John, Louis, Vincent, and Richard.

Anna Maria was admired by all who knew her as a strong, intelligent, and hard-working woman. She endured life threatening challenges during WWII, and left her home to pursue a new life in America. While raising her family, she received a Master’s degree from the University of Hartford, and led a successful career at Southington High School, teaching multiple foreign languages. She was beloved by her students for her passion of language and her demanding but fair teaching style.

Anna Maria is survived by her sons, Dr. Louis Pito of Cheshire, Vincent Pito, and wife, Zuleima Tellez, of Boston, Dr. Richard Pito, and wife, Ruby Loo, of Toronto, Canada, and Jessalyn Pito, wife of her deceased son, John, of Wallingford. She is also survived by her brother Cesare Maffettone, sisters in law Mirella Maffettone and Lilliena Maffettone and cousins Alfredo Recine, Amelia Leopardi and Gianni Mottola all of Italy. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Nicole, Allison, Jenna, Krista, Adam and Valerie.

Anna Maria was passionate about her family and will be dearly missed. Our family is grateful for the many kind words and support of friends and family. We are truly grateful to our mother’s caregivers, especially Lea (Liana Dgebuadze) who helped care for her for more than 14 years.
