Alan "Duke" Sward

Alan “Duke” Sward passed away on February 12, 2026 at Elim Park in Cheshire CT. He was 97 years old. He was born in Chicago, IL to Arthur and Florence (Larson) Sward.

He is an army veteran. He and his wife Nancy were married for 67 years until her death in 2020. Duke lived at Elim Park beginning in 2014. He and Nancy retired to Brevard NC in 1999 after living in Michigan, where they raised their family. They met at DePauw University where they both earned degrees. He worked as a healthcare administrator and a teacher until his retirement.

Duke is survived by his two children John (Heidi) Sward of Hamden CT and Liz Weller of Spokane WA. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and three nieces.

He leaves a legacy of friendship, integrity, love, kindness and compassion. He made a point to make the lives of his family and friends better and dedicated himself in service to others. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank his private caregiver Ben for his dedicated service.
