Ady Herman Joseph Grandmaison, 93, of Cheshire, CT, affectionately known by most as “Babe”, passed away at his home in Cheshire on 8/23/25, with his family by his side, after a long-term illness.
Ady was born July 4th, 1932, in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Ludger and Laura (Caouette) Grandmaison, and moved with his family to Waterbury, CT at the age of 16. He graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury, after which he worked at Scovill Manufacturing in Waterbury. He served in the US Army from March 1956 to February 1962, stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where he trained and served as an Aircraft Powertrain Repairman. During his years of service, he naturalized, and achieved US citizenship in 1958. After his time in the army, he was employed by Hylie Products in Watertown, where he worked more than 25 years as a Precision Tool Maker/Foreman. Ady spent some years working at Alderson’s Funeral Home in his spare time and loved helping people through a difficult time.
Ady was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a devout Catholic that served as a Communicant and Usher at Epiphany Church in Cheshire for many years. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and BINGO. He organized picnics and other social functions for church and work. Ady loved vacationing in Florida and Misquamicut, RI, with his family. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Red Sox and enjoyed watching most sports. Ady was known for his infectious smile and one liners.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille (Brouillard) Grandmaison, and his four children Laura Loime (husband Dominic) of Wallingford, Yvette Earley (husband Lawrence) of Casco, Maine, Shirley D’Aurelio (husband Robert) of Milford, and Joel Grandmaison of St Catherines, Ontario; four grandchildren (Jolene, Megan, Dominic Jr, Mitchel); one great grandchild (Evelyn); many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters & their husbands, Lorette & Paul Ingraham, Beatrice & Bernard Choiniere; grandchildren, Corey & Shayne Earley; nephew David Ingraham.
The family would like to thank the numerous caregivers over the last 2 years for their help and kindness.
