NORTHFIELD- Mr. William F. Scott, Jr., 79, of Northfield, died Saturday Mar, 7, 2009 at Rose Haven Hospice Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Margo (Mazzadra) Scott.

He was born in Bridgeport, Aug. 25, 1929, a son of the late Catherine and William F. Scott, Sr... He graduated from Stratford High School in 1948 along with his high school sweetheart Margo. After graduating high school, he began a lengthy career in special metals and brass tubing in Bridgeport Brass Co... In 1960, he relocated to Niles, Ohio with his wife and three children to supervise a tube mill at Reactive Metals. After his 5 year assignment, he moved back to Conn. to continue working at Bridgeport Brass, then with Bristol Brass and Plume and Atwood in Thomaston. Following his retirement in 1994, he took a position with Meals on Wheels in Torrington where he enjoyed 14 years of service work with the seniors.

Bill engaged in many competitive sports. In Ohio he became a (bowling legend) competing on TV showing his winning techniques. Even in his early years while a student in high school, he held the highest average in all of the high schools in the United States. More recently he and his wife traveled extensively around the U.S. as members of the American Rabbit Breeders Assoc., showing his winning Satin Show rabbits in competitions. In 1991, he won best white satin in the United States out of 6000 rabbits.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by 2 daughters, Shelley Geriak of Seymour and Cathy DelVecchio and her husband Kevin of Naugatuck; 6 grandchildren, Keith Geriak, Jill Geriak, Ashley DelVecchio, Tony DelVecchio of Conn. and Corrine and Allison Scott and daughter-in-law Kathleen Scott of Florida; two sisters, Barbara Deaso of Monroe and Norma Scott of Melbourne, Fl.; a sister-in-law Barbara Sirois and brother-in-law, Howard Sirois of Huntington, Ct. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Raymond Scott and a son, William F,.Scott, III

His funeral will be held on Wednesday Mar.11, 2009 at 9:15 am from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. to St. Vincent Ferrer Church 1006 New Haven Rd. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call at the funeral Home on Tuesday Mar. 10th from 4 to 8 p.m.
