CHESHIRE - Stephen W. Waller, 64, passed away on March 9, 2017. He was the son of the late William and Marjorie Waller. He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 43 years, Diane. She was the best, “for better or worse and in sickness & in health”, she was always right there.
He also leaves behind his daughter, Tracy (Matthew) Pearsall of Cheshire, CT and the sparks of his life, his grandchildren, Jenna and Tyler. Steve also leaves behind his two brothers, Jack (Betsy) from New Britain, CT, Bob (Penny) from Chattanooga, TN, his brother-in-law Neil (Diane) Ferguson from Phoenix, AZ and his sister-in-law Nancy, from Rochester, NY. He joins his late brothers-in-law, Marshall Ferguson & Keith Ferguson and his nephew, Marshall Ferguson. Steve also leaves behind many nieces & nephews, as well as great nieces & nephews.
Steve has lived in Cheshire since 1956. He graduated from Cheshire High School in 1970. While at Cheshire High, he was the first boys basketball player to score 1,000 points and still remains the third highest scorer in school history and is currently in the Cheshire High Hall of Fame.
After high school, he enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War. He spent eighteen months in Turkey and his troop still remains in contact regularly after 40+ years. After the Army he went on to graduate from CCSU with a degree in Marketing while getting married in 1974 and working full time. After CCSU, he went on to receive his Masters Degree from RPI in 1982 while working in the electrical manufacturing business.
Steve loved all sports, he was an avid golfer. He just loved being around people, he listened and learned from so many people and he always used that knowledge to share. He always said the most important thing, he learned from his father: “Always tell the truth so you don’t have to remember who you told what.”
Arrangements – Friends will be received at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. on Wednesday March 15, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to ST. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
