NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Sandra (Witherwax) Douglas, 77, of Naugatuck, passed away Thursday morning Oct. 31, 2013 at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Kenneth G. Douglas.

Mrs. Douglas was born in Waterbury, May 3, 1936, a daughter of the late Winfield and Laura (Roeltgen) Witherwax and was a Naugatuck resident most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Margaret's School (now Chase Collegiate School) and The Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, MA.

Sandy was a majority stockholder in the family owned business Naugatuck Glass Co. founded by her late father in 1927, until the sale of the corporation and is now owned by Flabeg Technical Glass-US. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Naugatuck Y.M.C.A. She was also a major donor to the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls, Inc.

She leaves two sons, K. Gregg Douglas and his wife Joline of Bethlehem and Scott C. Douglas of Naugatuck; one daughter Suzanne D. Carolan and her husband Brian of Watertown; one brother, Jeffery T. Witherwax and his wife Jane of Woodbury; 7 grandchildren, Colin, Jack, Andrew, Sean and Evan Douglas and Tyler and Olivia Carolan and a nephew Robert Witherwax.

Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday Nov. 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 210 Church St. where a Memorial Requiem Eucharist will be held with the Rev. Jules Z Jodko, Rector and the Rt. Rev. Andrew D. Smith as con-celebrants. Burial will be held in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. on Monday Nov. 4, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Naugatuck Y.M.C.A., 284 Church St., Naugatuck, 06770-4122.
