CHESHIRE - Richard R. Gleeton, 87, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Ruth (McCoy) Gleeton.

Mr. Gleeton was born September 14, 1930 in Zanesville, OH, the son of the late Russell and the late Katherine (French) Gleeton. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and obtained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1953 he graduated from THE Ohio State University with a Professional Engineering degree and was a member of the TKE Fraternity. In following years he pursued supplemental certifications from the American Management Assoc. in NY. He had owned and operated Carbide Die Co. in Watertown over 30 years.

Dick, Gramps or G, as he was known to his family and friends lived in Cheshire for over 50 years. During his years in Cheshire, he served on many boards and committees such as Copper Valley Club and the Cheshire Youth Football program in its infancy. Dick was an avid woodworker building hundreds of birdhouses and custom cabinetry in the house he designed. He was a former member of the Country Club of Waterbury. As an descendant of John Howland, he was a member of the Mayflower Society as a 13th Generation ancestor, as well as the Denison Society in Mystic, CT. Those who knew Dick will attest to his great sense of humor and play on words.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Mr. Gleeton is survived by his son Tom Gleeton and his wife Sarah; his daughters Mary Schoonmaker and her husband Jon, and Nan Conlon and her husband Dave; his grandchildren Dennis (Juana), Mark, Patrick, Molly, Lincoln, Kacey and Tom as well as his two great grandchildren Max and Mateo.

Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 am at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Dr. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 pm at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Dr. 06410 or the Cheshire Land Trust, P.O.
