Philip Sher

Cheshire - Mr. Philip Sher, 70, of Cheshire, formerly of Barkhamsted, CT, and Yonkers, NY, died on Thursday, December 5, 2019. He was the husband of Patricia (Uryga) Sher.

Mr. Sher was born on March 19, 1949, in Yonkers, NY, son of the late Adolph and Ruth (Fishman) Sher.
He is survived by his son Adam Sher and his wife Laura, his daughter Debbie Taddei and her husband Nicola, and grandson Nico, as well as nieces Amanda Walsh and Erica Lombardo of New City, NY and nephew Mitchell Abrams of Morganville, NJ, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother, David Sher and his sister, Barbara Abrams.

Philip Sher graduated from NYU with a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering and went on to have a successful public service career working for the State of Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control. Upon retirement from the State of Connecticut, Philip continued working as a private consultant providing expert testimony for various clients throughout the United States. He also taught pipeline safety for the Northeast Gas Association. Philip held many designations including Gas Piping Technology Committee 2nd Vice-Chairman and National Chair of the National Association of Pipeline Safety Representatives (NAPSR) from 2006-2007.

Most important to Philip, though, was his family. He was a loving husband to his wife Patricia of 37 years whom he doted on constantly. He was a proud, loving, generous, and compassionate father to his two children Adam and Debbie. He was involved in every aspect of their lives never missing a big life event, school event, PTA meeting, school play, or graduation. He was also best known recently for his role as ‘grampy’ to his two-year-old grandson Nico. Philip started every conversation by sharing a recent picture or video of his grandson. He enjoyed taking care of Nico two days a week every week, never wanting to miss one moment of fun. Always quick-witted and funny, Philip’s family will miss his contagious sense of humor and joy.

Philip was a huge UConn women’s basketball fan, never missing a team on TV (even when they were undefeated and sure to win by a landslide). He and his family enjoyed an annual trip to Gampel Pavilion to watch them play live, always stopping at Rein’s deli on the way for lunch or dinner.

Philip died peacefully surrounded by his family. His love lives on and he will be missed tremendously.
