Parshotam Dass Gupta

Dr. Parshotam Dass Gupta, age 80, of Munster, IN and most recently of Cheshire, CT passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, Bradley Memorial Campus in Southington, CT. He was the devoted husband of Kamlesh (Goyal) Gupta for over 47 years. Parshotam was born on February 5, 1936 in Ambala, India, son of the late Jugal Kishore and Mayawati Gupta.

Dr. Gupta earned his PhD in Nuclear Physics from Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania and was a dedicated Professor for over 40 years at Purdue University, where he motivated all of his students to succeed and considered them all as his own family. He was raised in India, coming to the United States in the late 1950’s. He would always perform any task lovingly and to the best of his ability. This carried into his marriage, where he also “worked as a team” with his wife, and even doted on her by bringing her tea in bed on many occasions. Dr. Gupta was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a generous man with high ethical standards, very social and quick to involve everyone, and he lived to help and encourage others. He will be remembered by many for all of these reasons, and most of all for his inspirational and warm smile. Dr. Gupta spent many decades in Indiana, having lived there since 1968. He came to Cheshire in February for his 80th birthday celebration, relocating there with his wife and moving in with his daughter’s family.

Parshotam is the beloved father of Raymond Gupta of St. John, IN and Sandhya Gupta Desmond and her husband, Eric Desmond of Cheshire, CT. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Caitlyn Sitara Desmond, Daniel Parshotam Desmond and Meaghan Shivani Desmond; his brothers, Triloki Gupta and Umesh Gupta, both of Chandigarh, India; his sisters, Swarna Singla of Nabha, India, Vinod Singh of Jagadhri, India and Sudesh Aggarwal of Chandigarh, India; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Kailash Aggarwal.
