CHESHIRE - Nora Elizabeth (Daniel) Adams, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at her home.

Mrs. Adams was born on July 4th, 1923 in Alberta, VA, a daughter of the late Peter Morris Daniel and Jeannetta Virginia (Roberts) Daniel. She served in the Navy during the WW II. She was one of the first Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES).

Following the end of WW II, she attended the University of Connecticut under the GI Bill. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Business Administration. She then received a teaching certificate. She earned several advanced degrees during her nearly 35 years as an elementary school teacher in the Meriden school district and the district reading consultant in the Cheshire school district. Her retirement job was assisting her husband with his accounting practice. She loved dancing, playing bridge, and traveling the world with her husband. She enjoyed a variety of needle arts including knitting, needle point, cross stitch and quilting. She was an active member of the Cheshire Quilting Club. She was active in many community and professional organizations, including Phi Kappa Delta, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and serving as President of Old Towne Condominium Association. She also held various offices within the First Congregational Church of Cheshire.

She is survived by her son, Ron and his wife, Joan, of Kansas; her sister, Norma Nicholson, of Virginia; two grandchildren, Penelope Adams of Virginia and Melanie Deardorff and her husband, Peter of Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Heidi and Emily Deardorff. Her longtime friend, who she considered an American Field Service (AFS) son, Lauri Sarvillinna and his wife, Rajia of Jousta, Finland; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Adams; one sister, Ernestine Virginia (Ernie) Loving and two brothers, James Pryor (JP) Daniel and Morris Franklin (Frank) Daniel.

Special thanks to Paula Akofur and the staff members of Home Instead Senior Care, and Hartford Healthcare Hospice for the invaluable care they provided to mom/grandma over the past several months.

Arrangements – A graveside service, with military honors, will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 1:00 P.M., at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. Friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. There are no calling hours and the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
