Myron Verner

CHESHIRE - Myron Verner, 79, passed away Tuesday February 8, 2011 at the Highlands Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Janet (Morin) Verner.

Mr. Verner was born October 30, 1931 in Cheshire, the son of the late William and Myra (Williams) Verner. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army and became a life member of the V.F.W. Post 9965 in Wallingford. He was a lifelong Cheshire resident where he was a member of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire and served his community as a Police Officer from 1955 until his retirement in 1993. During his many years of service with the police department, he achieved the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant. He was a member of the Cheshire Fire Department as well as a member of Temple Lodge #16 A.F. and A.M. in Cheshire. He was a member of several police organizations and enjoyed fishing, vacationing in Delaware. He was known as a Jack of all trades and spent his retirement years making birdhouses.

The Verner family would like to thank Dr. Olsen for his care over the years as well as the entire staff at the Highlands Healthcare Center for all of their care and support over past several months.

Besides his wife of 27 years, Mr. Verner is survived by his daughter Cheryl Scott and her husband Tim of Newington; his step-son Michael Regan of Guilford; his step daughters Maureen Regan of New Britain, Kathleen Goodison and her husband Bill of Cheshire and Suzanne Schmitendorf and her husband Tom of Shelton; his brothers Raymond and his wife Ellie of Cheshire, Richard and his wife Ann Marie of Cheshire, and Wilbur and his wife Darlene of Forestville; grandchildren Breslyn Goodison, Stephanie and Jonathan Miller, and Aiden and Ivy Schmitendorf; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Michael Verner.

Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Friday February 11, 2011 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to the First Congregational Church for services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
