Maria was a loving mother to two daughters, whom she doted on and adored. She was especially proud of her two grandchildren and loved their company. They truly were her sunshine. She loved animals, especially cats, playing bingo and spending time with family and friends. Her beautiful blue eyes, great sense of humor and contagious laugh will be missed by all who loved her.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Tamika Lui-Amaral and her husband, Ryan, of Waterbury and Alexandria Kavanaugh of York, PA; her grandchildren, Riley and Evan Amaral of Waterbury; her sisters, Patricia Kavanaugh of Oakville, Cynthia Nastri of Waterbury, Debra (Don) McQuarrie of Waterbury, Susan Kavanaugh of Oakville, Terri (Gary) Chacho of Oakville, Margaret (Gordon) Strachan of Waterbury and Nina (Bob) Kavanaugh of Waterbury and her brother, Kenneth (Mary) Kavanaugh of Torrington. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Irene.

There will be a memorial mass to honor Maria’s life on Wednesday, July 1st at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street, Waterbury. All that loved her are encouraged to attend. There are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of several floors at Waterbury Hospital for the care and concern they provided for Maria over the last few years.
