M. John "Jack" Lyons

CHESHIRE - M. John “Jack” Lyons of Cheshire, CT passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Cheshire House rehabilitation facility at the age of 77.

Jack was the son of the late Martin F. and A. Regina (Foley) Lyons. He was born in Newark, New Jersey and spent his formative years in Mt. Holly, where he graduated from Rancocas Valley High School in 1963. He attended Rutgers University. His fondest childhood memories came from summers spent with family at Avon by the Sea. Jack was a long-time member of the Hartford Elks club. Upon meeting his beloved wife of thirty-one years, Beryl Lyons, he became a dedicated member of the Cheshire, CT community where he served as a Constable for many years, the treasurer of the Cheshire Senior Center Membership Association and an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. As a cancer survivor, Jack took great pride in helping coordinate Cheshire’s Relay for Life for several years, in addition to his other volunteer work in the community.

Jack is survived by his wife Beryl; his children Michael (Jennifer), Marci (Michael) Simon, Suzanne, Seth Max and Jessica Max; and his beloved grandchildren Kaitelyn, James, Basil, Nick, Jake, Luke, and Michael. He is also survived by his siblings: James (Pauline) Lyons of Marlton, NJ, Robert (Lori) Lyons of Mt. Holly, NJ, Kathryn (the late Jeffrey) VanPraag of Sarasota, FL, and his sister-in-law Sharon of Hainesport, NJ. Jack was predeceased by his younger siblings Jeanne Saia and Greg Lyons of New Jersey. He was an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews.

The twinkling blue eyes on Jack’s often stoic face provided a glimpse into the quiet and coy jokester, who always entertained his family and kept the fabulous medical staff who cared for him in his final weeks on their toes. His children and siblings would like to extend a special thanks to Beryl for her enduring and eternal love for Jack, which brought out the best in him.

The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home in Cheshire is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cheshire Senior Center Membership Association (240 Maple Ave., Cheshire, CT 06410.
