CHESHIRE - Josephine "Josie" Banach, 73, passed away January 8, 2011 at her home. She was the wife of Karl P. Banach.
Josie was born July, 19, 1937 in New Britain, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Kozlowski) Dabkowski. She was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University where she earned her Bachelors and Masters in Education. She was retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections where she taught until her retirement in 1992. During her career she was named as Educator of the year in 1983 and was recognized in the Commissioner's Circle of Merit in 1991.
Josie was a longtime Cheshire resident where she was active with the Cheshire Community Theater and the Republican Town Committee. She was also involved with the Cheshire Garden Club and the St. Bridget Church Guild where she held the position of President with both groups. She served as Justice of the Peace in the Cheshire community as was currently serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Cheshire Senior Center. She was a communicant of St. Bridget Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Red Hat Society; President of the Cheshire Women's Club and Vice President of the General Federation of Women's Clubs.
Besides her husband of 53 years, Josie is survived by her son Karl J. Banach of New Hampshire; her daughter Karla Joy Banach of Colorado.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 11, 2010, 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Cheshire to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
