CHESHIRE- John Walter McConnell, 87 of Cheshire passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019 at Amberwoods of Farmington. He returned to the loving arms of his late wife Jeanne (DeVylder) McConnell of 43 years.

John was born August 23, 1931 in Rome, New York, son of the late Walter and Margaret (Fahey) McConnell and Stephen Corso. He is predeceased by his brothers Jimmy and Mike.

John honorably served for 20 years in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller to include service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement, he continued to serve in numerous capacities to include the Civil Air Patrol and Cheshire VFW. He also loved to fly and held a private pilot’s license.

He was the proud father of and survived by Kathleen, John, Debbie (M.J.), and Brian (Laurie) from his first wife Elizabeth; and Stephen (Jennifer), Maggie, Mary (Dave) and Paul from his second wife, Jeanne. He was a loving Poppa to his 15 grandchildren and his 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Beverly Boyd, Betty Ann Ward, and Harold "Mac" McConnell.

We love you, Poppa Mac, and we honor you. You lived a full life, and you were a good, honest, hardworking man. You loved your family above all else. You built a legacy of love which will live on in your absence. We love and miss you so much already.

Arrangements- A Celebration of Life for Mr. McConnell will be held 6 P.M, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Cornerstone Church, 1146 Waterbury Road, Cheshire, 06410. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St, 06410 is assisting the family with the arrangements. Donations in his name can be made to Gary Sinise Foundation, PO Box 368, Woodland Hills, CA 91365.
