WATERBURY; Mrs. Joan M. (Giarlella) LeVasseur, 76 of Waterbury passed away peacefully Friday January 7, 2011 at Waterbury Hospital with her children by her side. She was the widow of Gerard R. LeVasseur, Sr.

Mrs. LeVasseur was born August 24, 1934 in Waterbury a daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen (Whitney) Giarlella, Sr. and was a lifelong Waterbury resident. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School. She was a secondary machinist at Waterbury Screw Machine retiring after many years of service. Mrs. LeVasseur was a Communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

She leaves her son Gerard R. LeVasseur, Jr. and Diane Davino of Waterbury, her daughters, Laura Rossi and her husband Joseph of Thomaston and Helen Weiss and her husband Alan of Plymouth, her step daughter, Christine Trombini of Wisconsin, her brother, Nicholas Giarlella, Jr. of Waterbury, her grandchildren, Stacey LaChance, Shelly Patrick, Richard Swenden, Jr, Joan Swenden and Nicholas Weiss and her great granddaughters, Lillian LaChance and Michaela Swenden. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lisa Swenden and her sister, Delores Duncan.

Funeral services for Mrs. LeVasseur will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mulville Funeral Home 270 West Main Street to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main Street for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of her family. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Jude's Children's Hospital 501 Saint Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
