Joan (Flood) Ciaburri

CHESHIRE - Joan (Flood) Ciaburri, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 15, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital.

Joan was born August 15, 1932, in the Spring Glen section of Hamden. She was the daughter of the late Frank Flood, WWII Veteran, bronze star recipient and New Haven City Attorney, and Rose (Corbett) Flood, veteran educator in the New Haven School system. Frank & Rose raised seven wonderful daughters, including Joan.

Joan Flood married Alfred Ciaburri in 1953. They purchased a home on Long Hill Road in Cheshire, and together, started their own family. After raising her six sons and spending many years volunteering as a library technician at Norton Elementary School in Cheshire, she earned a degree in Library Science on “pay TV”. She then worked as a Librarian for 25 years at the Cheshire Public Library.

Joan was a woman of strength, love, compassion and integrity. She devoted herself to her family, making traditions around the dinner table, enjoying dessert, talking and playing board games with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid novel reader, tennis fan, Scrabble Master and enjoyed researching family genealogy with her sisters and nieces.

Joan Ciaburri is survived by her devoted sons, Richard (Barbara), Frank, Andrew (Wendy), Mark, Michael (Diane), and Ronald (Marina Sandoval), twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren whom she cherished, and her beloved sisters Marie Merkel, Janet O’Rourke (deceased), Rosemary Fitzpatrick, Virginia Kelly, Frances Jack, and Elizabeth Ziter.

Arrangements - A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021. Visiting hour will be held at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home between the hours of 8:30(family) and 9:00-10:00 AM (visitors), followed by a mass at St. Bridget’s Church, Cheshire at 10:30 AM.
