CHESHIRE - James V. Lauber, 87, of Cheshire, Connecticut and Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away on August 15, 2020.

James was born in New Haven, CT to the late William and Theresa (Cosenza) Lauber. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950-1954, seeing combat during the Korean War, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action.

Prior to retirement, James was self-employed as an architect, and was extremely active in the community in Cheshire, CT. He was awarded the 1964 Connecticut State Police Citation for capturing an escaped violent psychiatric patient in New Haven. He helped establish the Cheshire Junior Football Program and was one of the first head coaches. James was the past president of the Cheshire Jaycees, past chairman and director of the Cheshire Booster Club, past Master of Ceremonies of the Miss Cheshire Pageant and past president of the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Program.

James was a family man that loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored. He will always be remembered and greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Edna Cooke Lauber.

James was the Beloved, Adored, and Devoted Husband of Joanne Parise Lauber for the past 24 years; Loving Father of James A. (Connie) Lauber of Waterbury, CT; Dear Stepfather of Cheryl (Angelo) Vigliotto of North Haven, CT, and Jeffrey (the late Kerry) Migliaro of Ronkonkoma, NY; Adored Grandfather of James R. Lauber, Kevin M. Lauber, Michael (Kayla) Becker, Vincenzo Vigliotto, Anthony Vigliotto, and Brianna Migliaro; and Dear Brother of Fern (Rene) Burelle. He is survived by many more relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Vitas Hospice Inpatient Unit for their exceptional care of James.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 10 am. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the State Veteran’s Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. There are no calling hours and The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St, 06410 is assisting with arrangements.
