Henry Andersen

Cheshire ' Henry I. Andersen, 92, of Cook Hill Rd. passed away January 6, 2009 at Elim Park. He was the husband of Myrtle (Petersen) Andersen.

Mr. Andersen was born January 12, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Anders I. and Elise (Bentzen) Andersen. Immediately after WWI Mr. Andersen's family returned to Norway with the intention of settling there, but returned to the U.S. in late 1929 and resided in Brooklyn.

Mr. Andersen was a WWII Navy Veteran serving in the amphibious forces in both the Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters.

Until his retirement in 1979, Mr. Andersen's vocation was in the aircraft engine industry. Over his career he was employed by Curtiss Wright in NJ and then with Avco Lycoming in Stratford. He was responsible for the development of castings and forgings, coordinating with design engineering, purchasing and suppliers in the field which entailed extensive traveling throughout the country.

Besides his wife of 68 years, Mr. Andersen is survived by his two daughters, Phyllis Honychurch and her husband Doug of Trumbull and Joan Callahan and her husband Charlie of Branford; as well as four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Arrangements ' A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 10, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Elim Park, 150 Cook Hill Rd., Cheshire. Burial will be held at the State Veteran Cemetery in Middletown at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to VITAS Hospice, 1579 Straits Turnpike, Suite C Middlebury, CT 06762 or to the Radio Bible Church Ministries, P.O. Box 268, Grand Rapids, MI 49501-0268. The Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire is in charge of arrangements.
