Gladys E. Benson

CHESHIRE – Gladys E. Benson, 85, passed away Tuesday October 15, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Iver K. Benson, who she dearly missed every day since his premature passing.
Mrs. Benson was born September 17, 1934 in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Louis and Evelyn (Wilson) Euerle. She grew up in Stratford and Shelton, but was a Cheshire resident for 50 years and was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire. She was a graduate of the Waterbury Hospital School of nursing in 1955 and worked tirelessly as a devoted Registered Nurse at Waterbury Hospital for 60 years until she retired at age 80. She was EDNA credentialed and was head nurse of the Emergency Room for years, finishing her career as a surgical nurse in the Operating Room. She was an active member of the Waterbury Hospital Alumni Association and regularly attended their reunions. In her retirement, she enjoyed her quilting group, her water aerobics class, and extending her education by taking UCONN OLLI classes. She touched so many lives in her giving and generous way and she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Benson is survived by her 3 loving children and their spouses: Laurie & Tim Folsom of Milford, Jill & Mark Ricci of Granby and Scott & Maria Benson of New Bedford, MA. Her grandchildren were absolutely the light of her life and she was an extremely involved and very devoted grandmother to Christopher and Maggie Folsom, Andrew and Alison Ricci and Eric and Melanie Correia. In addition she is survived by her sister, Patricia Brown, and her brothers Louis Euerle, Richard Euerle and Kenneth Young, and was predeceased by sisters Carol Taylor and Sandra Siraco.
