NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Gertrude B. (Roberts) Tousignant, 89, of Naugatuck, passed away Friday evening June 20, 2014 at the Middlebury Convalescent Home. She was the widow of the late Leo A. Tousignant, who passed away in 2013 after 59 years of marriage.

Mrs. Tousignant was born in Holyoke, MA, Nov. 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Brachman) Roberts and had been a Naugatuck resident since 1969. She was educated in the Holyoke school system and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. She was also a graduate of Providence College School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree and was employed as a Registered Nurse at several Hospitals. She retired from Waterbury Hospital in 1979 after 24 years of service. She was an accomplished singer and enjoyed the outdoors and flowers, and keeping up with current events in the news. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Nurses and Staff of the Middlebury Convalescent Home for the wonderful care they provided to Mrs. Tousignant over the past 17 years she was a patient there.

She leaves one son, John Tousignant and his wife Brenda of Naugatuck; two daughters, Jean Hartshorn and her husband, Daniel of Naugatuck, and Judy Sandulli and husband Peter of Florida; and 5 grandchildren, Tom Tousignant, Tim Tousignant, Kevin Tousignant, Ryan Sandulli, and Kyle Sandulli. She was predeceased by her 14 siblings.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday June 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. A graveside service will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross St. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
