Germaine Gardiner

WATERBURY- Germaine (Dugre) (Beatty) Gardiner, 89, of Waterbury passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Apple Rehab in Watertown.

Mrs. Gardiner was born May 19, 1927 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Arthur and Aurore Dugre. Germaine graduated from Catholic High, Waterbury, in 1945 and from Post College with a business degree, quickly securing a managerial position at the Waterbury Housing Authority. After marrying the late James Beatty, she dedicated herself as a loving wife, homemaker, and mother of their sons, James Beatty (deceased) and Jerome Beatty.

Germaine had been an accomplished tournament bridge player, her victories frequently being published in the Waterbury newspapers. She loved seasonal wild flowers and gardening, and was a member of the Waterbury Garden Club in earlier years. Her artistic talent in floral arranging provided joy throughout her life, especially to many others at Apple Rehab over the last two years.

Along with late husband George Gardiner, Germaine enjoyed social activities with friends. The San Marino restaurant was a favorite venue and they took great pride in being faithful patrons from the very opening day of the restaurant in 1969. After George's passing in 1989, "Mrs. G", as she was affectionally known by the San Marino owners and staff, continued visiting there with family and friends until her passing.

A devout Christian, Mrs. Gardiner was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She is survived by her son, Jerome Beatty and his wife, Nancy, and grandsons Ben and Jacob Beatty, all of Falmouth, Maine, several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Arrangements- Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery has been arranged by the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710. Respects may be paid through personal prayer in Germaine's memory.
