OAKVILLE-George T. Gwilliam IV, 71, of Oakville, entered the presence of the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2015. He passed away peacefully and comfortably surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Gwilliam was born November 18, 1943 in Lake Charles, LA. He is the son of the late George T. Gwilliam III and the late Agnes (Coade) Gwilliam.

He was an Air Force veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his discharge he joined the Post 1946 VFW of Naugatuck. George was a committed member of Pinebrook Assembly of God Church, having served as a Trustee and usher. He was a loving and devoted man, who served his country, his church and his family.

He is survived by his wife: Maria Rosa (Vallejo) Gwilliam of Oakville; one sister: Margaret Fifield of Syracuse, NY; three children: George T. Gwilliam V, and his wife Lori of Stratford, CT; Elizabeth Wierzbicki and her husband John and Catherine Ernsky and her husband Peter both of Naugatuck, CT; his grandchildren, Peter, Andrew, Nicole, Gina, Ben, Casey, Matthew, Charles, Josephine, Ann, Lucy, and Nathan. He also leaves his nephews, Michael, Peter, and Matthew and his nieces, Kelly, Amy and Julie. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Gwilliam of Boston.

The family would like to thank the Staff of Waterbury Hospital and the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center for the tremendous loving care they provided to George and for the compassion toward his family.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 10:00 am at Pinebrook Assembly Of God Church, 175 City Hill St., Naugatuck, CT. Burial will be at Grove Cemetery, Cross St. in Naugatuck, CT with full military honors. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow Street. The Naugatuck Veterans Council will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
