Mr. Frederick A. Lawton, Jr, 82, of Middlebury died Friday December 19, 2008 at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck. He was the husband of the late Joan E. (Rothman) Lawton.

Mr. Lawton was born December 7, 1926 in Waterbury a son, of the late Frederick A. and Minnie Jean (Ryan) Lawton, Sr. and has been a Middlebury resident since 1960. He was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and studied Liberal Arts at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota and Business Administration at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. He was a Certified Financial Planner having worked for IDS/American Express/Ameriprise Financial. He was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Middlebury Lion's Club. Mr. Lawton enlisted in the US Navy on December 7, 1944 and served during WW II. He was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church.

He leaves his sons, Shan A. Lawton of Boston, Kerry R. Lawton of Middlebury and Noel B. Lawton of Waterbury, his daughters, Fawn E. Field of Spout Spring, Va, Kelly R. Lawton of Middlebury and Erin T. Russ of East Hampton and 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Rosalynde Lawton.

Funeral services for Mr. Lawton will be held Tuesday December 23 at 10 a.m. at the Middlebury Congregational Church 1242 Whittemore Road. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Torrington. Friends may call at the Mulville Funeral Home 270 West Main Street on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department 65 Tucker Hill Road Middlebury, CT 06762.
