Fred J. Scimone, age 87, of Cheshire and formerly of Bristol and Hamden, entered into rest on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Benchmark Senior Living at Hamden. He was the devoted husband of Marian (Zarkos) Scimone for over 22 years. Fred was born on November 17, 1928 in New Haven, son of the late John and Dominica (Zito) Scimone. Fred was a well-accomplished man; he graduated from UCONN’s School of Pharmacy and later obtained his Master’s in Science, he served his country with honor and pride during the Korean War with the US Air Force and was a Hamden Councilman. Fred worked as a pharmacist for Liggett’s in Hamden, and was a science teacher in Milford, Notre Dame in West Haven and for many years in North Haven, where he became the Director of the Science Department. That is where he established “The Science Teacher of the Year” and soon after he was honored with a scholarship in his name. He served as President of the Order of Runeberg Lodges for many years and belonged to the Swedish Choral Society. Fred was very active with Bristol Rotary Club, the soup kitchen in Bristol and St. Demetrios Church.

Fred is survived by his sons Fredrik Scimone (Lynn) of Wallingford, Selim Scimone (Amanda) of Chatham, MD, Kurt Scimone (Kathleen) of South Windsor; his grandchildren Rebecca, John, Gina, Donna, Miles, Sarah and Emma; his great-grandchildren Molly Parker and Raili; several step-children and grandchildren; and his sister Angela Sledden of TX. Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Raili Scimone.

A Memorial Service for Fred will be scheduled by his family and announced at a later date. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with his care. At the request of his family, memorial contributions may be made to the Season’s Hospice Foundation, 8537 Solution Center, Chicago, IL 60677-8005.
