Claire Rice

DAVENPORT, FL.- Mrs. Claire Abbott (Judd) (Chapman) Rice, of Davenport Fl. and formerly of Middlebury passed away Wednesday July 13, 2011 in Davenport, Fl. She was the widow of John P. Rice.

Mrs. Rice was born in Middlebury, the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Ruth (Abbott) Judd and prior to moving to Florida she was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church, a member of the Middlebury Historical Society, a member and past Matron of Pomperaug Chapter # 88 Order of the Eastern Star of Woodbury and a Charter member and past President of the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Linwood Abbott Chapman of Haines City, Fl., and Charles Arthur Chapman of Naugatuck, and Phyllis Chapman Gavitt of Orange, Ca.; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday July 21, 2011 in Middlebury Cemetery, Middlebury at 10 am. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America- Conn.
