Cheshire – Carl H. Bernhardt, 83, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, at Hartford Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Boardman) Bernhardt.

Mr. Bernhardt served his country with honor and pride in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War, spending 18 months at Wheelus Air Base in Tripoli, Libya. He was co-founder and current President of the Air Resupply and Communications Association.

Carl was a Registered Mechanical Engineer, licensed to practice in several states, graduating from the University of Connecticut, School of Engineering in 1965.

Carl was Treasurer of Cheshire Grange, The Cheshire Grange Community Fair, New Haven County Pomona, The Past Deputies’ Association, and served the State Grange as Deputy for New Haven County.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, Mr. Bernhardt is survived by his sons, Gerry Hauser, and his wife Frances, Richard Bernhardt, and his wife Michele, Carl J. Bernhardt, and his wife, Merrilee, and his daughter, Deborah Kammerer, and her husband, James. He will also be missed by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Theresa Hauser, and his brother, Frederick Bernhardt.

Arrangements- Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 10:00 A.M., at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St., Cheshire. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Green Cemetery, Hubbard Street, Glastonbury. Friends may call at funeral home, Friday evening, from 4:00 until 7:00. A Grange Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Cheshire Grange Community Service Fund, P.O. Box 4, Cheshire, Ct. 06410.
