Betty Ann Mitchell

Betty Mitchell, age 80, of Cheshire passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Cheshire Regional Rehabilitation Center. She was the devoted wife of William Mitchell for over 56 years. Betty was born on October 19, 1938 in Saginaw, Michigan, daughter of the late Madeline and Fred Brown.
Betty graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Southern Connecticut State University with a Master’s degree in Education. She lived in Cheshire since 1967 with her husband Bill raising their two children, Keith and Keely. A devoted mother and friend, Betty always made time for others: a volunteer and substitute teacher at Highland School, co-swim chairman at Copper Valley, a member of the Choate Rosemary Hall Parents’ Association, and a member of PEO. She viewed the glass half full with a witty sense of humor even in the darkest times as she battled four separate instances of lung cancer over the course of 17 years. An avid sewer and quilter, she spent her life making cherished treasures for those she loved.
Betty is survived by her husband William; her son, Keith Mitchell and his wife, Heidi of Darien, CT and daughter, Keely Henderson her husband, Ronald of Haymarket, VA. She is also survived by five beautiful granddaughters, Madeleine, Taylor, Grace, Megan, and Audrey who brought her immense joy. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert and Richard Brown of Midland, Michigan.
We would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful nurses, staff, and residents of the Cheshire Regional Rehabilitation Center for their loving care during the final months of her life. We would also like to thank Alderson-Ford Funeral Home for their compassion and professionalism in helping us through this difficult time. A sincere thank you from the Mitchell and Henderson families!
