CHESHIRE - Bernadette L. Harty, 88, passed away Tuesday April 15, 2014 at Elim Park Baptist Home. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Harty.

Mrs. Harty was born January 4, 1926 in Bellows Falls, VT, the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Pierce) Landers. She graduated from Bellows Falls High School and continued her education at Mt. Saint Mary College in New Hampshire where she obtained her Bachelors in Sociology and Biology. She was a Social Worker for the State of Vermont for several years. She moved to Cheshire in 1964 where she was a communicant of St. Bridget Church and was employed at Automated Payroll Service. She was an avid skier, giving lessons until the age of 81. Some of her pastimes included Golfing, Bridge, Poker, Tennis, Swimming and Reading. She loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Harty is survived by her children Kathryn Cuozzo and her husband Paul of Hamden, Joseph Harty and his wife Madeleine of Norfolk, MA, Joan Schewe and her husband Les of Blue Earth, MN, and Patricia Washburn and her husband Brian of Waterbury; her six grandchildren Michelle and Michael Cuozzo, Thomas and Kendall Harty, Andrea Schewe and Meghan Krause and her husband Zach; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother William Landers and her sister Mary Hadley.

Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2014, 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
