CHESHIRE; Mrs. Barbara R. (Phelps) Johnson, 75 of Cheshire passed away Saturday December 4, 2010 at Mid State Medical Center in Meriden. She was the widow of John A. Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was born January 13, 1935 in New Haven the daughter of the late John C. and Myrtle (Meeker) Phelps and has been a Cheshire resident for the past 50 years. She was a graduate of Hamden High School class of 1953 and attended Southern Connecticut State University as well as the American Institute of Banking. She was the Manager and Banking Officer at Bank of Boston retiring after many years of service. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Women's Golf League at Farmingbury Hills Golf Course in Wolcott. Mrs. Johnson was an active member of the Cheshire United Methodist Church, where she served as past Superintendent of the Sunday school.

She leaves her son, Gary J. Johnson and his wife Geralyn of Wolcott, her daughters, Holly B. Carey and Karen E. Wild and her husband Herbert T. Wild all of Cheshire. She loved spending time with all of her grandchildren, Herbie, Travis, Tyler, Hunter and Alyssa. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Scott C. Carey.

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be celebrated Wednesday December 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Cheshire United Methodist Church 250 Academy Road. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven.
