Cheshire - Barbara Cannon Bronke, age 89, of Cheshire entered into rest on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Barbara was born on July 2, 1927 in Manchester, daughter of the late Gaylord T. and Gertrude (Hitchcock) Cannon. Barbara was honored to be from a revered American family whom had a rich history in the founding of Connecticut, Hartford and the settling of New Haven and very proud to be an American Yankee. Ahead of her time, during the war, Barbara studied Pre-Med at the University of Michigan and completed her Bachelor’s degree at UCONN and was forever a fan of Michigan football and UCONN sports. Later on, she worked for many years for the State of CT as a Career Counselor and really enjoyed helping others. Barbara had a deep appreciation for the fine arts, classical music, the Boston Pops Symphony and more currently Josh Groban. She bestowed the importance of higher education on to her children and grandchildren, and she received great satisfaction with assisting each of them achieve their goals. She was an infinite supporter of Doctors Without Borders, the National Parks Conservation Association and the Audubon Society.

She is the beloved mother of James V. Bronke of Michigan; Martha L. Bronke of Waterbury; Jonathan C. Bronke and his wife, Mary of Cheshire; Carol M. Morse of Cheshire and Barbara is also survived by her loving grandchildren; Jonah Mazzacane and his wife, Diana; Samantha Hicks and her husband, Christian; Jessica Morse; Jonathan and Paul Bronke; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Taylor, Gabriel, Avery and Azor Jacob and her precious companion, TJ, her Miniature Dachshund. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Cannon and her sister, Deedie C. Wooley.

Barbara’s funeral will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10AM in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410. Interment will follow at her family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella T. Grasso, Blvd., New Haven. There are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with Barbara’s arrangements. At the request of her family, memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O.
