WATERBURY- Mrs. Ann P. "Nan" (O'Connor) Smith, 84 of Waterbury and a longtime Naugatuck resident, passed away peacefully at the home of her son in Northfield. She was the widow of Bernard C, Smith who passed away in 2007 after 57 years of marriage.

Nan was born in Hartford, Nov. 4, 11927, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Coughlin) O'Connor and had been a resident of the Village at East Farms for the past 2 years having formerly lived in Naugatuck for over 52 years. She retired from the Naugatuck Board of Education, in 1992 where she worked in the Central Office for over 40 years. She was educated in the Hartford School system and was a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church. While a resident of Naugatuck, she had been active in the Naugatuck Garden Club, was active in the St. Francis Home School Assoc., and was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed Sailing and traveling with her husband.

She leaves one son, Jeff Smith and his wife Dawn of Northfield; two daughters, Karen Lazuski and her husband Colin of So. Kingston, RI, and Laura O'Connor and her partner Russ of Heath, MA; 4 grandchildren, Tyson Smith and Brett Smith and Emma Lazuski and Joan Lazuski.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday Jan. 3, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. and proceed to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Rd. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St, James Cemetery, Cross St., Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday Jan. 2, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to the American Heart Assoc., 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492-5022.
