Alphonse A. Ferraro

Alphonse A. “Al” Ferraro, age 85 of Hamden and previously of Cheshire passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at CT Hospice in Branford, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Gladys (Peach) Ferraro for over 61 years. Alphonse was born on April 17, 1936 in New Haven, son of the late Alphonse and Eleanor (Ponzilla) Ferraro, and was a Cheshire resident for over 35 years.

Al served our Country with honor and pride with the US Army and the Army Reserves. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the UConn School of Pharmacy and was the owner of Granniss Corner Pharmacy in New Haven. In his later years he was employed as a pharmacist by CVS. Al was involved in many community organizations in Cheshire throughout his life, including the Town Council, of which he was Chairman, along with Chesprocott Health District and Cheshire RTC. An original parishioner of St. Thomas Becket Church, Alphonse was the happiest when spending time with his large and adoring family, and cherished the relationships he built with all of his patrons at Granniss Corner Pharmacy. He was a kind and humble soul with a warm smile and infectious laugh. Although he is no longer with us in the physical sense, his spirit and love will always be by our side.

In addition to his wife, Gladys, he is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Ferraro of Winston-Salem, NC and Paul Ferraro of Hamden; his daughters, Karen Cannata and her husband, Anthony of Cheshire and Laurie Hearrin and her husband, David of Cheshire. Alphonse also leaves his loving grandchildren, Ashley Boone and her husband, Dustin, Jeffrey, Matthew and Amanda Ferraro, Jenna, Jessica and Joseph Cannata, and Hunter and Mackenzie Hearrin; and his two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Carson Boone; his sisters, Marilyn Riordan and her husband, Earl of Madison, and Janice Pruchnicki and her husband, William of Madison; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Peach and his wife, Gloria of North Haven, and Thomas Peach of Hamden; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Ferraro of Beacon Falls and also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Al was predeceased by his brother, Edward Ferraro and his sister-in-law, Paula Peach.
